Ko Ocean ahau. I’m descended from Ngāti Porou through Mum, and looth Cornwall through Dad. I am married to a darling Dutchman. I work at Victoria University of Wellington researching and teaching on serious things, such as Māori, science, Māori science and the role of Māori knowledge in living better with our planet, Papatūānuku. I’m just as intrigued to ponder, discuss and write about the small and intricate details of our lives lived in leisure. This blog is my outlet for musings on random, intimate and trivial stuff, using prose, photos and maybe even some poetry.
You've discovered my online journal. Welcome, and don't be shy to read it! The blog started as a way for me to write down, work out and share the ins and outs of being diagnosed with a sarcoma. But life is always much, much bigger than our afflictions. So read on through this collection of personal reflections on life and its obsessions. For me that's orienteering, tramping, being Māori, being on the cancer spectrum, God, movies, books, cryptic crosswords and other minutiae.
